Following the discontinuation of the iconic Nautilus 5711A, the highly anticipated successor – the 5811G in white gold (MSRP $76,000 USD) – has finally arrived. Its evolution goes far beyond surface-level changes.
Key Upgrades:
Revolutionary Case Architecture
The 5811G adopts a “monobloc” construction where caseback and midcase are forged as one unit – resembling a saucepan profile. Movements must now be installed from the front before sealing with dial and bezel, marking a fundamental engineering shift.
Redesigned Keyless Works
To accommodate the new case, Patek reengineered the crown stem and clutch system. The entire mechanism can now be extracted with the movement during servicing – a critical improvement for maintenance.
On-Demand Clasp Extension
The fold-over clasp features a 2-4mm micro-adjustment system, significantly enhancing wearing comfort.
Movement & Strategy Insights:
Powered by the 26-330 SC automatic movement (evolution of the 5711’s late-production calibre) with multiple performance refinements.
Why white gold replaces steel? Patek’s president previously hinted at strategic de-emphasis of steel models. Precious metals elevate both price positioning ($76,000 USD) and margins – reflecting deliberate market repositioning.
